Lake Pichola, created in 1362 and expanded by the Maharanas of Mewar, is Udaipur’s most famous lake and the dramatic centerpiece around which much of the city’s beauty unfolds. Along its eastern edge lies Gangaur Ghat, one of the most culturally significant and visually striking ghats in the old city. With broad stone steps descending into the water, ornate waterfront architecture, and uninterrupted views toward City Palace, Jag Mandir, and the Lake Palace, Gangaur Ghat is both a gathering place and a postcard-perfect viewing point. It is especially magical during sunrise, when the city wakes softly over still waters, and at sunset, when palace lights begin reflecting across the lake. During Gangaur Festival, the ghat becomes a vibrant ceremonial hub with processions, traditional dress, music, and lamps, showcasing Udaipur’s living heritage. Boat rides from the lakefront offer close-up experiences of the island palaces and are among the city's most iconic activities.
What makes it special: This is Udaipur’s classic royal waterfront—the place where heritage, ritual, boating, architecture, and lake romance come together in a single unforgettable setting.
⚠️ Beautiful year-round. Monsoon fills the lake and creates dramatic reflections. Winter (Oct–Feb) is ideal for walks and boating. Gangaur Festival season is especially vibrant with ceremonial processions and decorations.
