Built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar, Sajjangarh Palace was originally intended as an astronomical center but became a hilltop retreat and monsoon watching palace—earning it the popular name Monsoon Palace. Perched high above Udaipur within the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, the palace commands spectacular 360-degree views of the city, Fateh Sagar Lake, Lake Pichola, surrounding villages, and the rolling Aravalli hills. During monsoon, clouds often sweep through the palace grounds, creating a cinematic atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Udaipur. At sunset, the sky glows over layered hills while city lights slowly begin to sparkle below. Though the palace interiors are relatively simple compared to City Palace, the location and panoramic setting make Sajjangarh one of Udaipur’s most unforgettable experiences.
What makes it special: The highest major viewpoint in Udaipur—offering sweeping lake-to-hill panoramas, dramatic sunsets, and cloud-wrapped monsoon views that feel almost surreal.
⚠️ Monsoon (July–September) is the most magical season, with clouds drifting around the palace and lush green hills below. October–February offers clear panoramic views and pleasant weather. Summer sunsets remain popular, though afternoons are hot.
